State
Haryana is a land of great historical, cultural, and spiritual significance in India. Its history dates back to the ancient Vedic period, when it was known as Brahmavarta, the sacred land where Vedic culture flourished. The famous battlefield of Kurukshetra, located in Haryana, is where the epic Mahabharata war was fought and where Lord Krishna delivered the divine message of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna.
Haryana has witnessed the rule of many powerful dynasties including the Mauryas, Guptas, Pushyabhutis (Harsha dynasty), and later the Delhi Sultanate and Mughals. During medieval times, the region remained a key political and military center due to its strategic location near Delhi. In 1526, the First Battle of Panipat, fought in Haryana, changed the course of Indian history by establishing Mughal rule in India.
During the British period, Haryana became part of the Punjab province and played an active role in the Indian freedom struggle. After independence, Haryana was formed as a separate state on 1st November 1966. Today, Haryana is known for its strong agricultural base, industrial growth, and rich cultural heritage.
