Dumas Beach

Dumas Beach

About this place

Dumas Beach is a popular seaside escape near Surat, known for its long stretch of dark, sandy shoreline along the Arabian Sea and its breezy, relaxed vibe. Visitors come here for evening walks, street food like bhajiya, pav bhaji and roasted corn, and beautiful sunsets over the water. Small temples, the lively promenade, and chai stalls give it a very local Gujarati feel. Though urbanising fast, Dumas still feels a bit wild with crashing waves, strong winds and open sea views, making it a favourite weekend hangout for families, college groups and photographers exploring the coastal side of the “Diamond City.”

History & highlights

Historically, Dumas was used as a cremation and burial ground, which is why many local legends call it a “haunted” beach even today. Over time, as Surat grew towards the coast, Dumas evolved from a quiet coastal village into a recreational spot managed by Surat Municipal Corporation. Food stalls, lighting, paved walkways and better connectivity turned it into a mainstream picnic and tourism zone. Recent civic plans aim to further upgrade the beachfront with improved amenities while preserving its identity as one of South Gujarat’s most visited seaside locations.
