Shri Balaji Dham, also known as Shri Siddh Hanuman Mandir, is a very popular Hanuman temple located on National Highway 72 at Jhajra, on the Dehradun–Selaqui–Vikasnagar side. The complex has a grand entrance, tall shikhars and a main sanctum where Balaji (Hanuman ji) is worshipped in a powerful, South-Rajasthan style similar to Mehandipur Balaji Mandir. Inside, devotees also have darshan of Lord Ram, Sita and other deities, while the outer courtyard hosts bhandaras, satsangs and special aartis. The temple is known for its intense spiritual atmosphere – people come from Dehradun, Selaqui, Vikasnagar and nearby villages believing that Balaji here listens quickly to prayers, removes obstacles, and protects from negative influences. On Tuesdays, Saturdays and Hanuman Jayanti, the rush becomes like a small mela, with long queues, prasad stalls and families spending hours in bhajan and darshan.
About this place
History & highlights
Local narratives and media reports describe Balaji Dham as a siddh peeth of Hanuman ji, famous for relief from dush-prabhav, buri nazar and other problems, which is why it’s also called Shri Siddh Hanuman Mandir. Devotees say that earlier a small Hanuman shrine existed on this highway stretch; as faith grew and more “mannat poori” stories spread, donors came together to build the present, much larger temple modelled architecturally on Mehandipur Balaji, so that people of Uttarakhand who cannot travel to Rajasthan can still experience a similar Balaji darbar. Over the last few decades the temple has expanded with marble flooring, bigger halls and lighting, while its reputation has grown through word of mouth, social media videos and local travel sites. Today, Balaji Dham is considered one of Dehradun’s main Hanuman centres, especially for the western side of the city and the Selaqui–Jhajra industrial and educational belt.
