Sector 17 Plaza .An open, car-free plaza surrounded by government offices, banks, shops, cafés and showrooms – historically the main shopping and hangout hub of Chandigarh. Wide tiled promenades, fountains and benches make it feel like a European town square. Even with newer malls, people still come here for branded and local shopping, ice cream, live performances and evening walks.

Sector 17 was planned by Le Corbusier as the city’s central business district, with a large pedestrian core instead of congested streets. For decades it was the place for shopping and social life. With the rise of malls, footfalls dipped, but recent revitalisation drives, cultural events and light installations aim to bring back its buzz while respecting the original modernist design.
