Sanitary Garden / Kala Sagar (Sector 36)

About this place

Sanitary Garden.A unique outdoor–indoor art space where sculptures and installations are made entirely from broken and discarded sanitary items like toilets, sinks and tiles. It’s both quirky and educational, promoting recycling and creative reuse, and is sometimes described as a “sequel to Rock Garden” in spirit.

History & highlights

Created from 1998 onwards by artist Vijay Pal Goel, who used damaged sanitary ware to build a large collection of sculptures. The project received a Punjab State Award and was envisioned as an inclusive tourist place, especially friendly for differently-abled visitors. Though it has faced neglect at times, it remains an unusual example of government-supported eco-art and waste awareness in Chandigarh.
