Chandigarh has a prominent Shirdi Sai Baba temple (often featured in “temples to visit in Chandigarh” lists) where a marble idol of Sai Baba is worshipped with daily aartis and Thursday/Sai-specific programmes. Devotees come to offer flowers, chadars and prasad, seeking blessings for health, exams, jobs and family peace. The temple atmosphere is simple, devotional and crowded on Thursdays and festivals.
About this place
History & highlights
Shirdi Sai Baba passed away in 1918 in Maharashtra, but his cult spread rapidly across India in the 20th century, leading to hundreds of Sai temples in major cities. Chandigarh’s main Sai temple was set up by local devotees in recent decades (post-Independence) as part of this wave of bhakti. While it doesn’t have medieval history, it has quickly become a key everyday pilgrimage spot in the city, especially for those who cannot frequently visit Shirdi.
