Naulakha Mandir

About this place

Naulakha Mandir is a beautiful temple on slightly higher ground a short distance from the Baidyanath complex. It has tall, elegant shikharas and a peaceful campus, surrounded by greenery and fewer crowds. Inside, the shrine is dedicated to Radha–Krishna, and the atmosphere is more meditative compared to the busy main temple, making it a popular stop for those who want a calmer devotional experience in Deoghar.

History & highlights

The temple gets its name from the traditional story that about “nine lakh” (naulakha) rupees were spent on building it—an enormous amount in its time. Constructed in the late 19th or early 20th century with donations from a queen-philanthropist, it reflects the devotional and charitable traditions of wealthy patrons in the region. Over time Naulakha Mandir has become an important secondary pilgrimage site in Deoghar, often combined in local spiritual circuits with Baidyanath Dham and nearby sacred spots.
