About this place
History & highlights
Hazaribagh developed as a hill sanatorium and cantonment under British rule, thanks to its altitude and cooler climate compared to the surrounding plains. The lake was created and landscaped as part of civic improvement, while Canary Hill became a scenic lookout. After Independence, Hazaribagh remained a district HQ known for its educational institutions and nearby forests. The lake–hill pair still carries the legacy of a colonial health resort adapted into a modern district town’s main recreational space.
