Raja’s Seat is a viewpoint and garden on a hill in Madikeri, offering sweeping views of the valleys and hills of Kodagu (Coorg). A small pavilion, flower beds, walking paths and musical fountains make it a popular spot for sunrises and sunsets. Couples, families and photographers flock here for the misty-morning or golden-evening vistas.
About this place
History & highlights
The name “Raja’s Seat” comes from local tradition that the Kodagu kings of the Haleri dynasty once used this spot to relax and watch sunsets over their kingdom. While the current garden layout is more recent, the viewpoint reflects the older royal association with Madikeri as a hill capital. Under British rule and later, Madikeri remained a district centre, and Raja’s Seat became its signature scenic point, symbolising Coorg’s long-standing identity as a coffee-and-hills region with a distinct local chieftain history.
