Radha Vallabh Temple

About this place

Radha Vallabh Temple is known for its unique mood of intense Radha-centred devotion. The main deity is Radha Vallabh (Krishna), and instead of a separate deity of Radharani there is her crown placed beside Him, symbolising that She is present in essence. The temple hall resounds with classical style kirtans, and the architecture and red sandstone walls give it a very old Braj atmosphere.

History & highlights

The Radha Vallabh tradition traces back to Sri Hith Harivansh Mahaprabhu (16th century), who emphasised the supremacy of Radha’s love. The original temple and deity worship started not long after the Goswami era, making it one of Vrindavan’s older, historic temples. Though it has seen renovations and expansions over time, the core tradition of Radha-focused worship, special festivals and poetic compositions has continued for centuries. The temple is also listed among the main ancient shrines of Vrindavan and has shaped a distinct Radha Vallabha sampradaya within Braj bhakti.
