Radha Madan Mohan Temple

Radha Madan Mohan Temple

About this place

Radha Madan Mohan Temple,Perched on a small hill near the Yamuna, the old Madan Mohan Temple is one of Vrindavan’s most iconic silhouettes. The simple, tall shikhara of red brick and the surrounding ghats give a strong feeling of ancient Braj. The temple is not as crowded as newer shrines, so visitors often experience a quiet, devotional atmosphere with views over the town and river.

History & highlights

Madan Mohan worship in Vrindavan is associated with Sanatan Goswami, one of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s leading disciples. The hilltop temple is among the oldest Gaudiya Vaishnava temples in Vrindavan (16th century). Like Govind Dev, the original deity was later moved to Karauli (Rajasthan) due to Mughal threats, and a pratibhu (replica) deity is worshipped here now. The temple’s long history, simple architecture and link with Sanatan Goswami make it a key tirtha on Vrindavan parikrama circuits.
