Resubelpara (Resu) is the headquarters of North Garo Hills district and occupies an important “gateway” position into the Garo Hills region from Assam. Its administrative story began before district formation. Resubelpara’s local administrative unit was strengthened when Resubelpara was upgraded to a full-fledged civil sub-division effective 30 April 1982 (as noted in town-level histories).

A major change came in the 2010s. North Garo Hills district was carved out of the erstwhile East Garo Hills district on 27 July 2012, and Resubelpara became its district headquarters. This shift brought district offices and public services closer to communities in the northern Garo belt, reducing dependence on older administrative centres and improving local governance reach.

Geographically, Resubelpara is associated with riverine settings (including the Damring River mentioned in town profiles), and as a headquarters it serves as the primary civic and market centre for surrounding rural areas. Today, Resubelpara’s identity is defined by this administrative evolution—transitioning from a smaller subdivision town into a district headquarters that anchors governance, services, and connectivity for North Garo Hills.
