Baba Garibnath Dham is Muzaffarpur’s most famous temple, especially crowded during Sawan when devotees arrive in huge numbers. It’s often called the “Deoghar of Bihar” in popular usage because of the intense Shiva devotion and ritual energy. For tourists, it’s a high-impact religious experience rather than a quiet monument visit.
About this place
History & highlights
The temple’s “history” is largely preserved through local belief traditions—often described as around ~300 years old—with stories of discovery of the lingam and the beginning of worship at the site. Modern pilgrim management and festival-scale arrangements reflect how the shrine grew from a local sacred spot into a major regional pilgrimage center.
