Deepor Beel (Wetland / Birding)

About this place

Deepor Beel is a large freshwater wetland on Guwahati’s edge—excellent for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and travellers who want a quieter “green side” of the city. It’s also important for the city as a stormwater basin and has rich biodiversity, including migratory birds in season.

History & highlights

Deepor Beel is recognized internationally as a Ramsar site (designated in 2002) due to its biological and environmental importance. It has long been part of the Brahmaputra floodplain ecology and is now monitored under conservation frameworks because of its ecological value and urban-environment relevance.
