Built under the guidance of the Nipponzan-Myōhōji Buddhist order, its foundation stone was laid in 1972 and it was inaugurated in 1992. The structure represents a post-war global “peace” movement in Buddhist architecture, and it became one of Darjeeling’s most visited modern spiritual landmarks.
