Polo Forest

About this place

Polo Forest is a slow-travel destination where you experience nature and heritage together—dry deciduous woodland, rocky Aravalli foothills, and quiet trails that feel especially alive after the monsoon. The vibe is less “crowded tourist spot” and more “hidden escape”: bird calls, forest shade, river-side walks, and sudden sightings of carved stone ruins appearing between trees. It’s ideal for trekking, photography, birdwatching, and relaxed weekend stays because the landscape changes through the day—misty mornings, bright afternoons, and calm evenings with a deep forest silence.

History & highlights

Polo is linked to an ancient settlement built around the Harnav River and is believed to have been established around the 10th century by the Parihar kings of Idar. Later, it was conquered in the 15th century by the Rathod Rajputs of Marwar and came under Idar State traditions. The name “Polo” is commonly derived from “pol” (gate), reflecting its historic role as a gateway route between regions, and many of the surviving monuments in the forest are dated to the medieval period.
