One of Goa’s most visited Shiva temples, known for its serene temple tank, elegant white-and-pastel Goan temple architecture, and the iconic multi-storey deepastambha (lamp tower). The complex feels calm and spacious, with wide courtyards and a strong “heritage” atmosphere that blends devotional energy with classical Goan design.
About this place
History & highlights
The shrine’s deity and worship tradition are linked to older settlements in Salcete; during the 16th-century disruptions under Portuguese rule, the deity was moved and the temple was established at its present location in Priol (Ponda region) in the 1500s, becoming a major religious centre for many Goan Hindu communities.
