Agartala is Tripura’s cultural capital, and this grand white palace is its most iconic landmark. Set amid landscaped grounds, domes, and heritage architecture, the complex feels like a “living museum” where you can experience royal-era elegance along with Tripura’s identity—tribal art, local traditions, and the Northeast’s cultural storytelling. It’s also a perfect starting point for exploring city attractions like prominent temples and the central shopping hub at Agartala City Centre for modern cafés and stores.
About this place
History & highlights
Ujjayanta Palace was built by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya around 1901 and became a symbol of the Manikya dynasty’s power and taste. Over time it moved from being a royal residence to serving civic functions (including hosting the State Legislative Assembly until 2011), and later evolved as a major museum and heritage monument—preserving the memory of Tripura’s princely past while presenting the region’s art and culture to today’s visitors.
