The Great Rann of Kutch is one of India’s most striking landscapes – an endless white salt desert that shimmers under the sun and glows under the full moon. Dhordo village has emerged as the main tourist hub, especially during Rann Utsav, when tent cities, cultural performances, handicraft stalls and adventure activities transform the barren plains into a seasonal festival ground. Visitors come for sunset and moonrise views over the salt, camel or ATV rides, local music and craft shopping. Border-area regulations mean access is controlled, adding a sense of remoteness and uniqueness to the experience. The region also lies close to Kalo Dungar, which offers sweeping views over the Rann, and to small villages where traditional Kutchi embroidery and mud-mirror work are practiced. While basic comforts are available in tented resorts, winters can be cold and summers harsh, so timing is important. For Ghoomein, this region can be positioned as a “must-experience” landscape, very different from hill stations, forests or beaches anywhere else in India.
