Dwarka
Dwarka, on the western tip of Gujarat, is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage towns and a major centre of Krishna devotion. The Dwarkadhish Temple, with its imposing shikhara overlooking the Gomti ghat, is the spiritual heart of the city and draws pilgrims throughout the year. Nearby, Gomti Ghat, small shrines and the confluence with the sea create a powerful coastal tirth atmosphere. The wider Dwarka region includes Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, Bet Dwarka island, Rukmini Devi Temple and beaches like Shivrajpur, which has Blue Flag status. The town itself has a simple, devotional feel – narrow lanes, shops selling puja items and prasad, dharamshalas and modest hotels. For many travellers, Dwarka is clubbed with Somnath, Porbandar and Jamnagar in a Saurashtra coastal circuit. Good road connectivity and an active railway station make it accessible despite being at the edge of the state. For Ghoomein, Dwarka can be presented as both a major Krishna dham and a good base for exploring Gujarat’s emerging coastal tourism belt.
