Rewari

Rewari is an important historical city of southern Haryana, known for its rich heritage, warrior tradition, and role in India’s freedom struggle. The history of Rewari dates back to ancient times and is believed to be associated with the Matsya Kingdom, which finds mention in the Mahabharata. The region later came under the rule of various Rajput and Ahir rulers, who strengthened its political and cultural identity.

During the medieval period, Rewari remained under the influence of the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal Empire. The town gained special historical importance during the Revolt of 1857, when Rao Tula Ram, a brave freedom fighter from this region, led a strong rebellion against the British. He formed a local army, fought several battles, and even went abroad to seek support against British rule. His sacrifice made Rewari a proud center of resistance.

After the failure of the revolt, Rewari was brought under direct British administration. With the arrival of the railway in the late 19th century, Rewari developed as a major trade and transport hub.

After India’s independence in 1947, Rewari became part of Punjab and later of Haryana in 1966. Today, Rewari is known for its industrial growth, educational institutions, and patriotic legacy.
