More about the place
The history of the Beatles Ashram dates back to the 1960s when Maharishi Mahesh Yogi established it as an ashram for meditation and spiritual teachings. The ashram is situated on the banks of the Ganges River, surrounded by lush forests and serene natural beauty, providing an ideal environment for meditation and introspection. In February 1968, The Beatles, along with their partners and other celebrities, arrived at the ashram to attend a Transcendental Meditation training program led by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. During their stay, they wrote many songs, including some of their famous hits like ""Back in the U.S.S.R.,"" ""Dear Prudence,"" and ""Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da."" After The Beatles' visit, the ashram continued to attract spiritual seekers and musicians from around the world. However, it fell into disrepair and was eventually abandoned in the 1990s. In 2015, the Uttarakhand government took over the ashram and began its restoration and development as a tourist attraction. Today, visitors can explore the Beatles Ashram to experience the tranquil atmosphere, view colorful graffiti art inspired by The Beatles, and learn about the history of this iconic place. It serves as a reminder of the cultural and spiritual significance of Rishikesh during the 1960s and continues to attract tourists and music enthusiasts from all corners of the globe.
