Bala Hanuman Temple

About this place

On the south-eastern edge of Lakhota Lake stands the famous Bala Hanuman Temple, known worldwide for its continuous chanting of “Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram.” The temple hall stays filled with devotees, bhajan groups and the rhythmic sound of the Ram dhun, especially powerful in the evenings when the lakefront lights up. From outside, you get pretty views of Ranmal Talav, while inside the atmosphere is simple, devotional and very local Gujarati. For Ghoomein users, this is a must-add spiritual highlight: Lakhota photo walk + Bala Hanuman evening aarti + Ram dhun experience.

History & highlights

Continuous Ram dhun started here on 1 August 1964 and has carried on 24 hours a day, earning the temple a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The shrine itself is a 20th-century temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, with idols of Ram, Sita and Lakshman. Over the decades, it has become Jamnagar’s best-known landmark for faith and collective devotion, drawing pilgrims as well as curious travellers who want to witness the non-stop kirtan tradition.
