Banasar Bagh and Marble Baradari

About this place

Banasar Bagh in Sangrur is a historic garden complex with a beautiful marble Baradari (twelve-door pavilion) set in the middle of a large tank. A small bridge leads to the Baradari, and the surrounding garden has towers, walkways, trees and landscaped lawns, making it one of the city’s favourite picnic and photography spots.

History & highlights

The marble Baradari in Banasar Bagh is believed to date back to the late 18th century, associated with local ruler Sardar Maha Singh, and later saw additions and renovations under subsequent princely rulers and the government. The garden exemplifies Mughal-influenced pleasure-garden design adapted by regional Sikh princely states. Over time it became the most popular public garden in Sangrur, preserved as a heritage site and green recreational space in the middle of the town.
