Basukinath Temple is one of the most important Shiva temples in Jharkhand, located on the Dumka–Deoghar route. The main complex has multiple shrines, with the principal lingam in a stone-walled sanctum where devotees can offer water and touch the deity. During Shravan and major festivals, long queues of pilgrims, many coming from Baba Baidyanath Dham at Deoghar, fill the courtyards and surrounding lanes. The atmosphere is deeply devotional yet rustic, with priests chanting, bells ringing and continuous aarti.

Basukinath is traditionally linked with Baba Baidyanath Dham, and many pilgrims consider visiting both shrines as part of a single yatra. References to the temple go back several centuries in local lore, and it has long been regarded as a significant Shaivite centre for the Santhal Pargana region. Under colonial and later state administration, the temple town grew around the shrine with dharamshalas, markets and roads. With the creation of Jharkhand, Basukinath’s importance as a regional tirtha strengthened, and today it forms a major node in the spiritual geography of eastern Jharkhand and neighbouring states.
