Bharat Mandir is a cultural temple-museum showcasing the idea of India as a single nation. Inside, you’ll find a large relief map of India on the floor and statues or panels representing major freedom fighters, thinkers and deities from different parts of the country. The neighbouring Tara Mandir / Nehru Planetarium offers astronomy shows about stars, planets and space science, making this complex a nice blend of patriotism and science education. School groups frequently visit, and families enjoy the combination of exhibition halls and planetarium shows. For Ghoomein, this spot is ideal for “India map + space dome” visuals and for adding kid-friendly content to your Porbandar page.
About this place
History & highlights
Bharat Mandir was conceived as a way to celebrate India’s unity in diversity, with its installation of an India map and statues developed in the post-Independence decades. The nearby Nehru Planetarium (Tara Mandir) was built to popularise astronomy and science among children, named after Jawaharlal Nehru and connected to a nationwide network of such planetariums. Together they form a civic education campus reflecting Porbandar’s pride in being Gandhi’s birthplace and part of modern India’s scientific and cultural story.
