About this place
History & highlights
Designed by Le Corbusier in the 1950s as the administrative heart of the new capital of Punjab, the complex embodies his ideas of monumental civic architecture. In 2016 it was inscribed as part of the transnational UNESCO World Heritage listing “The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier,” recognising its outstanding value as modernist urban design. The Open Hand Monument—Corbusier’s symbol of “open to give, open to receive”—has become a key emblem of the city.
