City Park and Bokaro Lake

About this place

City Park and Bokaro Lake,City Park, with its lake, landscaped lawns, pathways and small island, is the main recreational green space in Bokaro Steel City. Families come for boating, evening walks, children’s rides and open-air gatherings. The park’s greenery and water body break the monotony of industrial structures and residential sectors, and seasonal flower shows and festivals add colour to the space.

History & highlights

Bokaro Steel City was planned in the 1960s–70s around the large public sector steel plant. City Park and the lake were developed as part of this planned township to ensure residents had a central leisure area. The design reflects the era’s emphasis on combining heavy industry with planned urban amenities. Over time City Park became a symbol of Bokaro’s identity, balancing the image of chimneys and plants with that of families relaxing by the water.
