Gangnani Hot Springs And Temple

Gangnani Hot Springs And Temple

About this place

Gangnani Hot Springs is a small hamlet on the Gangotri road, famous for its natural hot water spring called Rishikund. Built-up bathing pools (separate for men and women) collect the steaming mineral water, where pilgrims take a holy dip before continuing to Gangotri. From the kund area you can see Bhagirathi valley views and terraced hillsides. Above the springs stands a small temple dedicated to sage Parashar, father of Ved Vyasa, adding a spiritual dimension to the place. For many yatris, Gangnani is a refreshing break: warm bath, simple food, darshan and then onward to the high shrine.

History & highlights

The hot spring has long been revered for its healing and purifying properties, and older travellers would make a point of bathing here to prepare body and mind for the harsher climate higher up. Over time, Gangnani developed modest tourist facilities—dharamshalas, small hotels, viewpoints—while retaining its village feel. Legends connect Parashar Rishi and other sages to this stretch of the Bhagirathi, strengthening its identity as a place of tapasya and study. Today, official tourism guides list Gangnani as both a spiritual and wellness halt, combining the idea of tirtha snan with modern notions of hot-spring rejuvenation.
