ISBT Dehradun (Inter-State Bus Terminal)

ISBT Dehradun (Inter-State Bus Terminal)

About this place

ISBT Dehradun is the city’s main long-distance bus terminal, located on the Haridwar bypass road. It is a busy, functional hub with platforms for ordinary and Volvo buses, ticket counters, food stalls and basic waiting areas. For most budget travellers and pilgrims, this is the real entry point to Dehradun, from where they catch buses further to Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Char Dham routes and other parts of Garhwal and Kumaon. The terminal is well connected by autos and city buses to Clock Tower, railway station and major neighbourhoods.

History & highlights

The terminal was developed as part of a larger bus terminal–commercial complex project to improve inter-state connectivity and decongest old bus stands inside the city. Reports describe it as the primary gateway for buses linking Dehradun to Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Himachal, Jammu and major Uttarakhand towns.
As tourism and migration to Dehradun have grown, ISBT’s role has expanded from just a transport node to a starting point for countless itineraries—Char Dham pilgrimages, student travel to Doon schools, and everyday regional commuting. Discussions on urban planning, traffic and new commercial zones along the bypass road often reference ISBT as an anchor project.
