Jayanti Devi Temple (Rani Talab area)

About this place

Jayanti Devi Temple in Jind stands near the historic tank area often called Rani Talab, forming a compact religious and recreational zone for the town. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Jayanti (Jainti Devi), worshipped as the goddess of victory. The complex has a traditional north Indian mandir structure, with a sanctum, pillared hall and smaller shrines around it. Devotees come here for daily darshan, special poojas and Navratri celebrations, while the nearby waterbody and greenery make it a pleasant spot for an evening walk.

History & highlights

According to local legend recorded in district sources, the Pandavas are said to have built a shrine here to Jainti Devi and prayed for success before the Mahabharata war, which is why she is honoured as a victory-granting goddess. Over centuries, the early shrine evolved into a more formal temple as different rulers and local chiefs added structures, ghats and ancillary buildings around the tank. In the modern period, as Jind emerged as a district headquarters, the Jayanti Devi complex became a civic as well as religious landmark, hosting fairs and community events. Today it connects Jind’s mythological identity with its contemporary life, acting as a historic shakti-peeth style centre for local faith and festivals.
