Jogini Waterfall & Jogini Mata Shrine

Jogini Waterfall & Jogini Mata Shrine

About this place

Jogini Waterfall cascades down a high rock face near Vashisht village, reached by a scenic 3 km trek through orchards, woods and small hamlets. From viewpoints, you can see a tall white stream of water dropping over cliffs into pools below, with views back towards the Beas River and Rohtang side. At the base of the waterfall is a small Jogini Mata temple, where locals offer prayers. The combination of moderate trek, spiritual stop and dramatic natural setting makes Jogini one of Manali’s most satisfying half-day excursions.

History & highlights

Jogini is associated in local lore with a devi linked to Indra or village guardian spirits. Some stories say she is the daughter of Lord Indra who bathed here; others see her as a powerful village goddess protecting the area. The temple at the base of the falls marks her seat, and villagers visit on specific days to offer ghee, flowers and coconuts. The route itself is part of the old network of footpaths between Vashisht and surrounding hamlets, used long before it became a tourist trek. With the rise of trekking culture in Manali, Jogini has gained fame as a “hidden gem” walk that still preserves a sense of local life and quiet devotion at the waterfall shrine, blending eco-tourism with traditional worship.
