Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple is one of the most revered Shiva temples of the Garhwal region and the chief temple within Srinagar town itself. Located close to the main market, it attracts daily local devotees and large crowds during special occasions. The temple complex is simple but deeply spiritual, with a central Shiva-linga and smaller shrines in the courtyard. Because of its powerful association with Lord Shiva and child blessings, it is considered one of the “Maheshwar Peeths” of the Himalayas and an important stop for pilgrims travelling through the Alaknanda valley.

Traditional belief says that after slaying Ravana, Lord Ram came here in the Treta Yuga to worship Shiva and atone for the brahma-hatya dosha (sin of killing a Brahmin king). Over time, the temple became famous for the Baikunth Chaturdashi and Khada Diya / Khad Deeva ritual, during which childless couples stand the whole night holding a lit lamp and pray for progeny. News reports show that hundreds of couples, including devotees from abroad, register every year for this ritual, reinforcing Kamleshwar’s reputation as a siddh-peeth for fertility and family well-being. Today the temple is recognized across Uttarakhand as a living centre of old Garhwali Shaiva traditions.
