History & highlights
Historically part of a small hill principality, Kishtwar lay on interior routes between Kashmir, Zanskar and the Chenab valley. It was absorbed into the Dogra kingdom of Jammu and later into the princely state of J&K. The national park designation in the late 20th century highlighted its ecological and adventure-tourism potential.
