Laxmi Narayan / Radha Krishna and other Sector 20 temples

About this place

Sector 20 temples in Chandigarh has a dense cluster of Hindu temples – including Laxmi Narayan, Radha Krishna, Shiv and Hanuman temples – which together form an important everyday devotional hub for residents. Narrow lanes open into small mandir complexes where regular aarti, bhajan evenings and festival celebrations (Janmashtami, Navratri, Diwali, Hanuman Jayanti) happen. For visitors wanting to see “local city temples” in addition to big pilgrimage centres, a walk through Sector 20 mandir area gives that experience.

History & highlights

These temples largely arose after Chandigarh’s creation in the 1950s–60s. As Hindu families settled in the new sectors, local committees built shrines for household deities like Vishnu, Laxmi, Shiva, Hanuman and various forms of the Mother Goddess. Over decades, individual shrines expanded into full temple complexes and a tightly packed “temple street” emerged in Sector 20. Today JustDial and travel blogs recognise Sector 20 as one of the city’s key neighbourhoods for multiple Hindu temples in a compact area.
