Mahavir Mandir (Hanuman Temple)

About this place

Mahavir Mandir—close to Patna Junction—is among India’s busiest Hanuman temples, especially during Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti. The temple’s energy is intense: long queues, constant chanting, and a strong feeling of public devotion. Many visitors include it as a “must-do” stop because it’s easy to access and deeply rooted in Patna’s everyday religious life.

History & highlights

Bihar Tourism and other records link its establishment to Swami Balanand (Ramanandi sect) around 1730, and a Patna High Court (1948) reference is often cited in discussions of its public religious character. The temple’s popularity expanded sharply after 1947, and later rebuilding/renovation phases shaped the present large marble structure.
