Malampuzha Dam and Gardens,Malampuzha, near Palakkad town, features a large dam across the Malampuzha River, creating a reservoir surrounded by hills. Below the dam are landscaped gardens, a ropeway, amusement park and the famous Yakshi sculpture. Boating, picnic spots and viewpoints make it a favourite outing for families and school groups.

History & highlights
Malampuzha Dam was constructed in the mid-20th century as part of irrigation and drinking water projects for the Palakkad region. To make the site more attractive, the state developed Malampuzha Gardens, adding sculptures, fountains and leisure facilities. Over time, it became one of Kerala’s earliest large-scale dam–garden tourist projects, showcasing post-Independence development and recreational planning. Its history reflects the era when multipurpose dams were symbols of progress and public pride.
