Mata Mansa Devi Temple

About this place

Mata Mansa Devi Temple.A huge temple complex at the foothills of the Shivaliks in Bilaspur, Panchkula, dedicated to Mata Mansa Devi, regarded as a powerful wish-fulfilling goddess. The campus has the main hill-facing temple, Patiala Shivalaya, sarovars, long corridors, shops and langar facilities. During Navratri melas, lakhs of devotees line up to offer coconuts, chunris and prasad; the entire road from Panchkula to the temple turns into a festive bazaar.

History & highlights

The present main temple was built between 1811–1815 by Maharaja Gopal Das Singh of Mani Majra. About 200 m away, the Patiala Shivalaya was constructed in 1840 by Maharaja Karam Singh of Patiala, adding another important shrine within the complex. After Independence the temples suffered neglect until the Shri Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board was created by the 1991 Shrine Act to manage and develop the complex. Today it is one of North India’s top Shakti pilgrimage centres, with large-scale corridor, infrastructure and yatri-niwas upgrades continuing under state and central schemes.
