Mizoram State Museum

About this place

This is the best place in Aizawl to understand “who the Mizo are” through textiles, ethnology, history, anthropology, and natural history displays. The museum experience feels like a guided cultural story—traditional attire, lifestyle objects, tools, and heritage pieces shown in a structured way. It’s ideal for students, researchers, and tourists who want more than viewpoints—something deeply connected to identity and heritage.

History & highlights

The museum was established in April 1977 and initially functioned from a rented house before moving into a dedicated building that was inaugurated/occupied in July 1990. Over time, galleries were modernized and improved with institutional support, reflecting the state’s effort to preserve and present Mizo cultural history in an organized public institution.
