Morni Hills is Haryana’s only recognised hill station, a scenic stretch of the lower Shivalik range about an hour from Chandigarh. The rolling hills are covered with forest, and the area is dotted with small villages, viewpoints, and the twin Tikkar Lakes that are popular for boating and picnics. The cooler climate, birdlife, and trekking routes make Morni a key nature-tourism destination for the Chandigarh–Panchkula region.
About this place
History & highlights
The name “Morni” is linked to a local legend of a queen who once ruled the area. Historically, the hills formed part of a forested buffer on the edge of the plains, with small forts and defensive outposts overlooking trade routes. In recent decades Haryana has promoted Morni as an eco-tourism zone, developing trails, viewpoints, and lake facilities while also highlighting its biodiversity as part of the broader Shivalik foothill ecosystem.
