Netarhat Viewpoints and Koel View

About this place

Netarhat is Jharkhand’s most famous hill station, known for its cool climate, pine and sal forests, and classic viewpoints. Places like Sunrise Point, Sunset Point and Koel View provide dramatic vistas over deep valleys and the meandering Koel River. Old rest houses, schools and forest bungalows add to the vintage hill-station feel.

History & highlights

Netarhat was developed as a colonial hill retreat and later as a local hill station for Bihar/Jharkhand, thanks to its height and pleasant weather. The British built rest houses and used it as a sanatorium away from the heat. After Independence, Netarhat continued as a regional tourist escape and became known for the Netarhat Residential School, an elite state-run institution. Today, while infrastructure is still basic in parts, Netarhat’s history as a quiet, less-commercial hill escape gives it a different charm compared to more crowded Indian hill stations.
