Nyari Dam lies about 5 km from Rajkot on the Nyari River and is one of the city’s favourite nature getaways. The reservoir is surrounded by open landscapes and a five-acre garden at the entrance, giving plenty of space for picnics and relaxed walks. Thanks to its peaceful setting, it’s popular for sunrise and sunset views, casual photography and weekend outings. In winter, the waterbody and surrounding scrub attract migratory birds, making it an enjoyable spot for birdwatchers as well. For travellers, it’s an easy half-day escape from the bustle of central Rajkot.
About this place
History & highlights
Built over the Nyari River as part of Rajkot’s water-supply system, the dam helps provide water to Rajkot and nearby towns, alongside Aji and other reservoirs. Over time, the green garden at the entrance and good road access turned Nyari Dam into a leisure and picnic spot; tourism sites now highlight it for its calm atmosphere, scenic sunsets and birdlife. It remains an important utility structure while also serving as a local recreation hub.
