Porbandar Chowpatty Beach

About this place

Porbandar Chowpatty Beach is a long sandy beach along the Arabian Sea, just a short walk from Kirti Mandir. A sea-facing promenade, benches, children’s rides and snack stalls make it a favourite evening hangout for locals. The gentle shoreline, fishing boats, and sunsets over the water give you plenty of scope for photos and slow-motion reels. It’s more of a walking and relaxing beach than a hardcore water-sports spot, but seasonal camel or horse rides and street food add to the fun. For Ghoomein, you can position this as “End your Gandhi trail with sunset at the sea” – history plus coastal chill in one city.

History & highlights

Porbandar has served as an old port town on the Kathiawar coast, and its shoreline has long been a working harbour for fishing and small trade. With urban development in the 20th century, part of the waterfront was shaped into a recreational chowpatty with lighting, seating and road access, while separate jetties handle fishing and boat activity. Recent tourism projects keep upgrading the promenade and cleanliness, promoting it as a family-friendly urban beach.
