Ranjit Sagar Dam, also called Thein Dam, lies a short drive from Pathankot and creates a huge reservoir surrounded by green hills. Lookout points offer sweeping views over blue water and forested ridges. Tourists come for picnics, photos and to enjoy the cool, breezy climate near the lake, which feels very different from the busy town.

Built on the Ravi River as a major irrigation and power project by the governments of Punjab and neighbouring states, Ranjit Sagar Dam significantly boosted regional agriculture and electricity generation. As the reservoir filled, it also created a scenic water body that naturally evolved into a tourist attraction. Over the years it has been promoted in travel guides as one of Pathankot’s “must-see” spots along with nearby temples and forts.
