Sahasralinga Talav

About this place

This large, historic tank site is a powerful place to imagine medieval Patan’s water culture—broad edges, ruined but impressive stonework, and a sense of scale that shows how seriously the region treated water storage and public spaces. Even in a quieter, ruined state today, it’s a meaningful heritage visit for those who love ancient engineering, city-planning, and old monumental water architecture.

History & highlights

Patan’s official district page notes it was originally known as “Durlabh Sarovar,” built by King Durlabh Raja and later repaired/renovated by King Siddharaj (1093–1143 AD), making it one of the major water works of the Solanki/Chaulukya period. Historical notes also describe its development and decoration during the medieval era as part of Patan’s sophisticated water-management tradition.
