This is the “heart of Sivasagar”—a large historic tank with tall temples on its banks. The area feels peaceful and grand at the same time: water, temple silhouettes, and an old-town sacred atmosphere. It’s also one of the best spots in the city for slow walking, photography, and understanding local worship culture.
About this place
History & highlights
The temples were built in the Ahom era; the Shivadol complex is strongly linked to Ahom royal patronage and is dated to the 18th century. The tank and temple group together represent Sivasagar’s rise as an Ahom capital landscape—where water architecture and religious monuments were planned as a single heritage setting.
