Established in 1979 to provide a major green space for the southern sectors, the garden was designed with a multi-level terraced layout to create visual interest on relatively flat terrain. It later became the main venue for Chandigarh’s annual Chrysanthemum Show, a big winter event organised by the horticulture department, reinforcing the city’s reputation as a “garden capital.”
