Tipi Orchid Research Centre

About this place

Tipi is a “must stop” if you like nature and photography—an orchid glass house filled with varieties displayed in pots and hanging baskets, with blooms that change seasonally. Even for casual travelers, it feels like stepping into a living botanical gallery. It’s also a great “family-friendly” stop because it’s easy to explore and visually attractive, especially when orchids are in peak bloom.

History & highlights

The West Kameng district site notes the orchid glass house was inaugurated on 26.12.1972 by B.K. Nehru and mentions around 1000 exotic orchids displayed. The Forest Department also presents Tipi as a research and development centre for orchids, reflecting how conservation and scientific cultivation became part of the region’s modern eco-tourism identity.
