Umiam Lake is a vast, peaceful waterbody on the Shillong–Guwahati road, surrounded by green hills and pine forests. It’s one of the best “first stops” for Meghalaya because the views open up suddenly, giving you a wide horizon, cool breeze, and picture-perfect sunsets. Visitors come for boating, lakeside walks, viewpoint photography, and relaxed café stops nearby.
