History & highlights

The caves are generally dated to the 4th–5th centuries CE and are associated with the Vishnukundina era. Their historical importance is also in transformation: sources note they likely began as a Jain abode, later saw Buddhist usage, and eventually became associated with Hindu temple traditions—showing centuries of religious continuity and change in the region.
